Recipe type: Dessert

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon anise extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped almonds

  1. Preheat oven to 300º.
  2. Line baking sheet with foil and grease (a cookie sheet or jellyroll pan will work).
  3. Cream butter and sugar.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time.
  5. Add extracts.
  6. Combine flour, baking powder and salt.
  7. Add to butter mixture.
  8. Stir in nuts.
  9. Form dough into two 11- x 3-inch rectangles on the baking sheet.
  10. Bake for 35 minutes until golden brown and firm. Lift foil to wire rack and cool.
  11. Reset oven to 325º.
  12. With a bread knife cut each piece diagonally into 1-inch wide strips.
  13. Put cut side down on cookie sheet.
  14. Bake for 10 minutes.
  15. Turn pieces over and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
  16. Cool.
  17. Store in an airtight container.
